Comparing HIV-1 – HIV-2,same shit dif pile eh!

Comparing HIV-1 and HIV-2
What is HIV-2?HIV-2 (or Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 2) is a second type of HIV discovered in 1986, but is believed to have been present in Africa much earlier. HIV-2 is primarily found in West Africa. What’s the Difference Between HIV-1 and HIV-2According to the Center for Disease Control
HIV-2 is transmitted in the same ways as HIV-1: Through exposure to bodily fluids such as blood, semen, tears and vaginal fluids.
Both HIV-1 and HIV-2 can develop into AIDS or what the Center for Disease Control calls “opportunistic infections” (otherwise milder infections that can become serious or deadly against a weakened immune system).
Immunodeficiency (or a weakened immune system) develops more slowly and is milder in persons with HIV-2.
People infected with HIV-2 are less infectious in the early stages of the virus than those with HIV-1.
The infectiousness of HIV-2 increases as the virus progresses.
Most reported cases of HIV-2 are found in West Africa.

Is Treatment for HIV-2 Different Than Treatment for HIV-1?Some of the drugs used to treat HIV-1 are not effective against HIV-2. Studies are still unclear as to the best treatment for HIV-2. HIV-2 is also more difficult to monitor than HIV-1 in the U.S., since there is no FDA-licensed viral load assay available. Are Blood Donors Tested for HIV-2?Donated blood samples are tested for both HIV-1 and HIV-2. Also, see Why Gay Men Can’t Donate Blood. Is It Better To Have HIV-2 Than HIV-1?Remember, there is no cure for HIV-1, HIV-2 or AIDS. Though there are slight differences in the two strands of HIV, both HIV-1 and HIV-2 lead to the same life-threatening result.Where Can I Get More Information on HIV-1 and HIV-2?To learn more about HIV/AIDS, including why you should get tested and how you can help prevent the spread of the deadly disease, visit the following resources:

HIV + Persons can & do have kids, semi normal life

This WAR on HIV must be won by education & awareness!I read a blog that said that we hiv+ persons can have kids & that HIV is not a death sentence, but,it is a slow & painfull way to go,as i have seen too many times already.I see it everyday,as i know alot of other PHA”s and almost everyone is taking some form of pain controll,& my worry is that as an ex addict they will not give me enough pain meds .Now i dont worry about all the time, but i do think that i am going to run into some trouble like this in the future. But for now i will attend my weekly support group & carry on with dayly livin.Takin 1 day at a time & trying not to worry about my cd4’s that have fallen a whoppin 400 points!Don’t Worry! i am told this again,& again, but its so much easier saids then done eh folks!& I am sure u’all know wat i mean eh?Well if u dont know yer cd4s R what your bodys defencive cell numbers R at,these R wat protect U from common colds & bacteria’s,& when these fall too low, your body can no longer fight off infections.when your cd4’s have fallen below 350,U R considered full blown aids, also if u have 3 opportunistic infections U R full blown aquired immune deficiency & R very close to your next step.Y is Dyeing such a dreaded event?Y should we act afraid?we should be happy & rejoice if we R to believe in GOD!~& if i am to believe in the good book=Holy Bible~hell is not created yet but will be made at judgment time-or at least thats my opinion of it/section of it nways.I wish i knew more about death myself,or why its so hard to deal with. The unexpected loss is the biggest thing.A parent should never have to bury their kids, its just not right eh?but maybe GOD needs them for some other pupose eh,we just dont know it or see it yet.Least ways i hope so ehZ!GODbless all & have a great day eh!~peace!

Why Graça took an HIV test
Everyone can help fight the disease, starting today
A word from the top
Every single South African can be a hero in the fight against Aids.
Today, the Sunday Times is asking each person who reads the stories on this page to take an HIV test and to get five others to do the same. Ask each of those five to get another five to do the same, and so on. Some 25-million people need to be tested for South Africa to get a true picture of HIV prevalence. This number could be reached by World Aids Day on December 10 if you get involved in this campaign.
The first step in diminishing the impact of this disease is to know your status. If you are HIV-negative, you can take steps to stay that way. If you are HIV-positive, you need to take care of your health and think about disclosing your status to your loved ones.
HIV is no longer a death sentence. But the silence and stigma around the disease very often is. Treatment is available, yet so many people are afraid to be tested until it is too late. Don’t let that happen to anyone you know.
Use this campaign as an opportunity to talk to your friends, family , colleagues and community about HIV and how to prevent it, how to manage it, and how to offer support and understanding to those who are HIV-positive.
The campaign is backed by the acting Minister of Health, Jeff Radebe, and the Deputy Health Minister, Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge.
Leaders from all sectors of society have signed up to be champions of the campaign. We’d like YOU to be one too.
HOW TO BE A CHAMPION
1. Take an HIV test and get five other people to do so too.
2. Make it clear that no one has to disclose the results of the test.
3. Tell us your stories — tell us why you decided to join the campaign, how you felt when you took the test.
We would like you to tell us of experiences that you have while participating in the campaign.
Send your stories — with pictures, if possible — to reach5@sundaytimes.co.za
4. Send your name and the names of your five people to reach5@sundaytimes.co.za so that we can publish a list of South Africans who have taken part. This will happen around World Aids Day. Please note: We do not want to know any test results.
5. Everyone has an audience. Find a way to take this campaign into your constituency — whether it is your home, a listed company, a religious institution, a university, a school, an office, a shop. We would welcome the involvement of other media in this campaign. — Mondli Makhanya, editor
You can get tested at your doctor or at your local clinic.

Treacher collins Syndrome & Juliana,An Angel’s Story

Entry for April 04, 2007/Treacher Collins Syndrome & Juliana,An Angel’s-story
I First seen little Juliana a few years ago,& have seen her 3 or 4 times since then,& still every time i see her i seem to be in a rut,or depressed(,I have HIV,hep-c,Porphyria,& epilepsy) & then on comes her small form,& i’m instantly praying for that family, hoping she pulls through against all odds.Peoples like to hear storys of hope,& faith, both of which this family has & i know there are many others out there that feel like i do,they are the finest examples of an american family.I am Canadian myself, but when i see that family together ,well it makes me proud that i am next door to a vast population ,Its just too bad they weren’t all likw that family i think this whole planet would learn a few things about just wat is importent.GOD,Family,Country,& alot of Love!!! This earth would truly be a paradise if peoples were like thAT family,& they continue to be my inspiration ,or when i am down that family pulled me up!& they dont know me,but my prayers & best wishes go out to them all, they put human back in humanity. james j.c. gough/07
